Valentine’s Day is around the corner, and that means (let’s just say it) some of us are prepping to get lucky. So what better time to talk about what’s in sexual health products like lube and condoms, and feminine products like wipes and washes?

Recommendations from Founder Amy Ziff
This holiday season, I’m thrilled to give you this guide of healthier options to make your shopping easier. No one wants to accidentally give a toxic gift, but it can be confusing to figure out what’s safe and what’s not.

The Green Science Policy Institute found that 80% of baby products tested contain flame retardants include nursing pillows, car seats, portable crib mattresses, baby carriers, strollers, and changing table pads. Studies show that these toxic chemicals appear immediately in the bloodstream and urine, and are to long-term impacts like endocrine disruption, lower IQ, ADD, fertility issues, thyroid disease and cancer. They are heavy polymers and wind up in common household dust; they’re inhaled and consumed and then stored in our fat, and they bio-accumulate and increase through the food chain, according to numerous studies.
A quick glance at a product’s ingredient list can tell you a lot about its safety – if you know what to look for! With over 85,000 chemicals used in an array of products today, it can be hard for anyone to effectively track safe vs. toxic ingredients without a database at your fingertips, but we recognize it’s an excellent place to start. Read ingredients and jot down anything you don’t understand to look up later. You’ll learn a lot.
