SANTA BARBARA –Pura Stainless is leading the way in consumer health and safety by pioneering the revolutionary new NONTOXIC CERTIFIED seal. The company’s baby, children’s, and sport bottles with this emblem are available in stores and on the company’s website starting today. As the first comprehensive human health certification to cross consumer product categories, the NONTOXIC CERTIFIED seal empowers shoppers to find and purchase items that have been lab-tested for known toxic chemicals so they know which products are safe for use on their bodies, with their babies, and in their homes.

Pura is the first bottle company with products that bear the NONTOXIC CERTIFIED seal.

“We have long believed that plastics have no place in juvenile feeding and adult hydration bottles and have worked tirelessly to create products that have no plastic content,” said Roger Moore, CEO of Pura Stainless. “As the only 100% plastic-free bottle line in the world, Pura is excited to see an independent body focused on the highest standards in human health and environmental safety. The NONTOXIC CERTIFIED seal will aid consumers around world in their quest for products devoid of toxic chemicals. We are proud to be the first bottle to achieve this status.”

While many bottle manufacturers bear BPA-free claims, mounting scientific studies show that BPS, its replacement, is linked to endocrine disruption and potentially just as toxic as BPA. Plastics can also commonly contain phthalates, a class of chemicals used to soften plastics that’s been linked to hormone disruption and reproductive harm. The NONTOXIC CERTIFIED lab testing process ensures that items don’t contain any toxic chemicals known or suspected to harm human health. This certification is independent third-party verification that ends consumer confusion around what is truly safe to buy.

“We’re proud to partner with Pura to give people a guiding light in the darkness around product safety,” said Amy Ziff, founder and executive director of the NONTOXIC CERTIFIED certification. “This seal means that the product meets the highest standards of human health safety in this country. No one else is performing whole product lab testing.”
Pura is the only 100% plastic-free feeding system on the global market, and it’s the only bottle system that converts from baby bottle to sippy cup to sport top as children grow. Made of food-grade stainless steel without an internal liner, all components of Pura bottles have been deemed safe for human health.

The NONTOXIC CERTIFIED process starts with a screening process called MADE SAFE, which examines ingredients and product materials for known carcinogens, endocrine disruptors, reproductive toxins, neurotoxins, behavioral toxins, flame retardants, heavy metals, pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, toxic solvents, harmful VOCs, or GMOs. This process also aims to close data gaps by screening each material and ingredient for persistence, bioaccumulation, and general and aquatic toxicity. Each and every ingredient has been scrutinized by a scientist.

Once products have passed the ingredient screening, they go on to be lab tested to ensure that the product as a whole doesn’t cause harm to human health. This phase actually looks at how ingredients and components of a product interact with each other in mixture.

NTC_LOGO_BlGrn_RGB“NONTOXIC CERTIFIED is revolutionary, and it’s the future of safe product formulation,” says Ziff.

While several baby, personal care, and household companies are rolling out the MADE SAFE seal for ingredient screening, Pura is one of the first to pioneer the gold standard lab-tested NONTOXIC CERTIFIED seal. Certified bottles can be found at

The MADE SAFE and NONTOXIC CERTIFIED seals solve the chemical conundrum that has vexed consumers for decades. Over 80,000 chemicals are currently in use in the US, and the majority are untested. Increasing studies are linking chemicals in everyday products to a wide range of serious health problems, from cancer, reproductive harm, and endocrine disruption, to learning disabilities, developmental problems, and inftertility.
But with scant legislation, little to no regulation around chemicals in commerce, and undislosed ingredients, it’s nearly impossible for consumers to ascertain whether or not a product may cause harm to their families. What’s worse, consumers are forced to navigate a sea of greenwashing with meaningless claims like “green” or “eco”. While they can turn to single-chemical claims like “BPA-free” or “phthalate-free”, no single trusted symbol has existed to signal consumers that products are truly free from chemicals that can harm their health.

“As a parent, this is the certification I want for the bottles I use with my own family in my home,” said Ziff.

MADE SAFE™ and NONTOXIC CERTIFIED™, America’s first comprehensive human health certification to cross consumer product categories, is a nonprofit with the goal of making it possible for consumers to easily find safe products while also offering brands and retailers a road map to making and selling products that are made with safe ingredients.
